Movin’On calls on Europe to intensify collective action to accelerate the decarbonisation of transport

Paris, France, 19 september 2024

On the occasion of the European Mobility Week, Movin’On is calling on European policymakers, businesses, and citizens to accelerate the transition towards decarbonised transport in Europe.

In Europe, greenhouse gas emissions are decreasing in all sectors except transport. The time has come to act.

Movin’On is putting forward six concrete proposals and inviting for debate and discussion to intensify collective action at its International Sustainable Mobility Summit, scheduled for 7 November in Brussels.

The letter, entitled ‘Call for Collective Action to Achieve the Decarbonisation of Transport in Europe’, emphasizes the need for collective and coordinated action to meet the goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, as adopted by the European Parliament in the 2021 European Climate Act.

Some thirty companies are taking part in this initiative to accelerate the decarbonisation of transport in Europe.

Transport is the only sector in Europe in which greenhouse gas emissions have not decreased in recent years, yet it remains a crucial challenge for sustainable mobility. This sector is key as it helps reduce inequalities and provides better access to employment, healthcare, education, culture, and leisure.

Aware of the difficulty in achieving the deployment of collective, concrete, and economically viable solutions, the Movin’On community is mobilized to raise awareness among stakeholders about the need for a collective approach.

To achieve this transition towards more sustainable, competitive, and inclusive mobility, Movin’On has developed six proposals based on experiments led by committed actors within the ecosystem:

  1. Accelerate the energy transition and the development of infrastructures
  2. Create a regulatory framework for medium-sized electric vehicles
  3. Promote the deployment of automated shuttles in rural and peri-urban areas
  4. Accelerate intermodality options and massify European green corridors
  5. Establish Europe as a competency source and make it a matter of sovereignty
  6. Harmonise the European regulatory framework to facilitate cross-border waste recycling

On November 7th 2024 in Brussels, Movin’On Summit will provide an opportunity to discuss these proposals with all decarbonised mobility stakeholders and to identify collective action levers for implementation as early as possible.
