THE PURPOSE OF THE COMMUNITY OF INTEREST

The SmartShuttle Community of Interest explores opportunities for greater use of collective transport in professional contexts, contributing to the decarbonisation of transport.

MISSIONS

The aim of the Community of Interest is to prototype, assess, and deploy an attractive collective transport solution tailored for corporate use. The Community of Interest is developing a service concept called SmartShuttle, which addresses the following challenges: seamless connectivity, confidentiality of conversations, climate control to reduce fatigue, and seating configurations allowing group work. This approach transforms travel time into productive time, encouraging users to shift from personal car use.

4 KEY STAKEHOLDERS

Movin’On has hosted the SmartShuttle Community of Interest and coordinated its activities since 2019.

bertolami, a family-owned passenger transport company based in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, has provided the Community of Interest with one of its Cityliner coaches, which has been given a new lease of life as a SmartShuttle concept. Bertolami also contributed to defining and implementing the operational domain of the prototype.

Orange, a key player in digital innovation for sustainable mobility, has co-led this Community of Interest. Since 2019, Orange has organised trials of a service connecting the employment hubs of Lannion and Rennes using a high-quality coach, laying the groundwork for subsequent transformations. Orange coordinated onboard Wi-Fi connectivity and vehicle-to-ground connections, working with WiiBus to install the appropriate antenna system and mobile router.

Saint-Gobain, a longstanding transport sector supplier of coach glazing, shares the goal of modal shift towards coaches by improving passenger experience. Saint-Gobain equipped the SmartShuttle with two types of innovative glass: windows ensuring optimal thermal comfort in all seasons and transparent interior partitions that serve as screens, similar to meeting room displays.

Since 2017, Michelin and Movin’On have conducted occasional coach trips for Michelin teams or cross-company groups for various events, notably between Paris and Clermont-Ferrand. These experiences highlighted the advantages of this solution for Michelin, with reduced environmental impact and more productive use of time compared to alternative options.

THE IMPORTANCE AND STRENGTH OF THE ECOSYSTEM APPROACH

In early 2019, driven by Michelin, Orange, and Saint-Gobain, around ten companies gathered to address the issue of corporate collective transport, creating the SmartShuttle Community of Interest within Movin’On. After developing a concept, it became clear that a mobility operator was essential for its realisation. Consequently, bertolami joined the core of this Community in 2021. Each of these four complementary partner companies contributed their expertise to co-create and bring SmartShuttle to life, moving from ambition to action…
