Mobility study with Kantar - The first multimodal generation

Movin'On presents the results of its survey of young city-dwellers committed to the environment.

When they travel, young people will use means of transport that first meet their needs and fit their budget. The choice of sustainability comes next: pragmatism takes precedence over idealism.

They are the generation that uses public transport the most. But they are not fully satisfied. They are calling for a radical improvement in service - more comfort, a quality experience during the journey, better interconnection with other means of transport and, in North America, lower prices.

Public transport accounts for 31% of transport used by Generation Z, compared to 25% for Generation X and beyond.

They remain as attached to the idea of owning a car as the generations above them. That said, they want it to be clean.

32% of Gen Z and 38% of Gen Y consider owning a car to be an important step in their lives (versus 34% for Gen X and beyond).
Over 36% of them will definitely or most likely buy an electric car (versus 16% for the generation above).

"Cars are expensive, that's for sure, but with children, etc. we cannot do without them. I know that in a year's time I'll be switching to an electric car...".

These digital natives have the ability to choose the best solution between their needs in terms of mobility, their budget - a key factor -, and what they value, namely the environment. They constantly seek to optimize their journeys, striking a balance between length of time, convenience, cost and sustainability, and taking advantage of all available possibilities.

61% of generations Z and Y use shared mobility applications, compared with 27% for generation X.

Interconnection with other means of transport is essential for them.

They are the first truly multimodal generation, ready to use all means of transport as long as they meet their needs and expectations; no one form of transport is rejected outright.
