How to improve the intermodality experience to make it more attractive?

Multimodality is often described as the ultimate solution for new generation mobility. Its promise is to improve mobility in cities and even across the region by reducing the use of private cars, encouraging the use of soft or shared mobility, and stressing the central role of public transport. However, numerous attempts were made in that direction, up to now with limited results. Despite the proliferation of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) projects and start-ups, solutions are struggling to emerge. What are the reasons for this delay in adoption?

A MaaS Provider is at the center of an ecosystem consisting of very different players, all with diverse interests and financial management methods. It is the interface between transport provider and user, but the adoption of these platforms in several cities has not yet produced convincing sustainable results.

While several types of MaaS now exist, new trends in their business models are beginning to emerge with transport and transit authorities to implement sustainable mobility that is better adapted to the needs of users and the city.

So can we still believe in the promise of MaaS and make it really work by successfully reconciling the interests of all the stakeholders involved?

What impact are we aiming for?

Decrease solo car driving on commuter trips, because intermodality has been made simpler and joyful.

What are we creating?

A white paper advocating a mindset change through concrete actions:

• Include a sensorial/comfort approach in transport equipment and infrastructure design, especially in waiting areas.

• Facilitate usage of personal active mobility devices (foldable bikes, scooters…) in trains and buses through standard dimensions (e.g. luggage cabin) and dedicated storage solutions.

• Improve traveller experience through social interactions or games during trips, making trips a joyful experience.

What is our roadmap?

White paper is out.
