End-to-end people – Mobility data for improved MaaS

Multimodality is often described as the ultimate solution for new generation mobility. Its promise is to improve mobility in cities and even across the region by reducing the use of private cars, encouraging the use of soft or shared mobility, and stressing the central role of public transport. However, numerous attempts were made in that direction, up to now with limited results. Despite the proliferation of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) projects and start-ups, solutions are struggling to emerge. What are the reasons for this delay in adoption?

Challenges and Opportunies

A MaaS Provider is at the center of an ecosystem consisting of very different players, all with diverse interests and financial management methods. It is the interface between transport provider and user, but the adoption of these platforms in several cities has not yet produced convincing sustainable results. While several types of MaaS now exist, new trends in their business models are beginning to emerge with transport and transit authorities to implement sustainable mobility that is better adapted to the needs of users and the city. So can we still believe in the promise of MaaS and make it really work by successfully reconciling the interests of all the stakeholders involved?

In practice

The Movin’On Community of Interest is setting out to identify all the bottlenecks that are holding back MaaS and multimodality as a whole from the success story it needs to be. To do this, based on existing efforts and proposals we intend to identify the roadblocks to multimodality adoption:

  • Offer: analysis of current offers on the market, and their shortcomings
  • Demand: which drivers are considered for an efficient and desirable mobility.

This community work will cover all kinds of mobility: local & long distance, professional & personal, … We will focus on real life personas to understand and unlock the potential of multimodality.

In 2024, Movin’On is renewing its commitment to the ambitious vision set out by the European Green Deal. To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, legislative measures include initiatives covering climate, the environment, energy, transportation, industry and sustainable finance – all of which are closely linked. The European Commission has furthermore stressed “the need for a comprehensive, cross-sectoral approach, encompassing all relevant sectors to achieve the ultimate climate objective”. Movin’On, as a business-led, multi-modal and cross-sectoral ecosystem, is perfectly in line with this approach.

We are therefore proud to announce our collective commitment throughout the year to achieving one goal: to help make the decarbonization of land transportation in Europe a success, in line with the objectives of the “Fit for 55” package by the year 2030 and in tune with the signing of the call for “Fossil-Free Transportation” initiated by our long-standing institutional partner SLOCAT.

Pease discover the themes we have together defined to meet this challenge, and for you, too, to collectively be a real part of it: Energy – Intermodality – Circular economy – Financing the transition – Inclusive mobility – Supporting the transition. – Sovereignty

These 7 themes are the starting point for our 2024 Communities of Interest, working groups that bring together various ecosystem stakeholders. They study the burning question of sustainable mobility, develop a common vision and jointly experiment with new solutions.
