Decarbonizing the transport chain

powered by

Dunkerque
Today, Dunkirk is opening a new chapter in its history, drawing on its creative and industrial strength, international outlook and the many assets across the region. As France’s third-largest port in terms of traffic, Dunkirk’s industrial port zone is expanding constantly. The expected tripling of container traffic over the next decade will lead to a massive increase in the number of heavy goods vehicles in the port area by 2035. And with the creation of 20,000 direct jobs generated by the establishment of various companies, the port needs more than ever to plan for responsible growth in the interests of all stakeholders.

Challenges and Opportunies

The Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque has embarked on a considerable development program, illustrated by the setting up of numerous industrial sites (Verkor and Prologium battery gigafactories, XTC Orano, SNF Flocryl, Clarebout potatoes). Alongside this land development, the region has already demonstrated its pioneering role in clean energy, with the future setting up of the Graveline EPR and an offshore wind farm, as well as the construction of 2 green hydrogen production units. The private sector is also playing its part, with considerable investment in the hydrogen-powered carbon draw-down of steel mills.

In practice

Against a backdrop of massive decarbonization of freight transport, all these new prospects call for the establishment of a strategic development plan for transport infrastructures.

By pooling private and public data, the Movin’On Community of Interest aims to further the development of a strategic planning tool for the resources required to support the area’s economic growth.

Take part and connect with our cross-sectoral expert

In 2024, Movin’On is renewing its commitment to the ambitious vision set out by the European Green Deal. To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, legislative measures include initiatives covering climate, the environment, energy, transportation, industry and sustainable finance – all of which are closely linked. The European Commission has furthermore stressed “the need for a comprehensive, cross-sectoral approach, encompassing all relevant sectors to achieve the ultimate climate objective”. Movin’On, as a business-led, multi-modal and cross-sectoral ecosystem, is perfectly in line with this approach.

We are therefore proud to announce our collective commitment throughout the year to achieving one goal: to help make the decarbonization of land transportation in Europe a success, in line with the objectives of the “Fit for 55” package by the year 2030 and in tune with the signing of the call for “Fossil-Free Transportation” initiated by our long-standing institutional partner SLOCAT.

Pease discover the themes we have together defined to meet this challenge, and for you, too, to collectively be a real part of it: Energy – Intermodality – Circular economy – Financing the transition – Inclusive mobility – Supporting the transition. – Sovereignty

These 7 themes are the starting point for our 2024 Communities of Interest, working groups that bring together various ecosystem stakeholders. They study the burning question of sustainable mobility, develop a common vision and jointly experiment with new solutions.
